The 1879 Avery House

Fort Collins has Franklin Avery to thank for the wide lanes in Fort Collins; he exploited the open spaces when he studied the town in 1873. Avery later established First National Bank and was instrumental in creating water extends that empowered agribusiness to prosper in northern Colorado.

In 1879, he and his significant other Sara manufactured a family home at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Meldrum Street and brought up their kids, Edgar, Ethel, and Louise, there. The first two-story home comprised of two rooms on the primary floor, presently the section region and lounge area; three rooms upstairs; and a cellar. Developed of sandstone from nearby quarries, the house cost $3,000 when it was fabricated. Amid the resulting years, the Averys added to the house a few times; the last option incorporated the particular Queen Anne tower.
